They need more people. The birth rate is falling. So they restricted the pill, and when they were asked why, they did not talk about faith or morality or the sanctity of anything. They talked about numbers. They said the population must grow, and women’s bodies are how it grows.

I need you to understand what changed. It is not the restriction. Restrictions came years ago and they will keep coming. What changed is the reason they are willing to say out loud. They are no longer pretending this is about the child. They are telling you it is about the count.

Separately, a court ruled that the other pill — the one a woman could receive through the mail, in privacy, without a man behind a desk watching her swallow it — must now be retrieved in person. The High Tribunal gave it back for one week. Seven days. A reprieve with an expiration date, which is not relief. It is the sound of someone deciding whether to let you keep what was already yours.

These are not separate events. They are the same event wearing different faces. In one room, the state tells you your body belongs to the census. In another room, the state decides how closely it needs to watch you take a pill. The thread connecting them is the same thread that connected everything where I come from: your body is not yours when the state has a use for it.

I have seen this stage. It is the stage where they stop pretending the restriction is for your benefit and begin telling you it is for theirs. That shift is not a collapse. It is a clearing. The mask comes off not because they are weaker, but because they no longer need it.

Watch what they count. When they start counting women, they have already stopped seeing them.

Under His Eye. We are watching.

The Word Terminated

Power does not need to abolish the safeguard. Not to describe them differently. To make them not exist.

A raid became a “domestic stability action.” A detention became a “protective reassignment.” A war, once it had gone on long enough to require justification, became something else entirely. They did not end it. They did not withdraw. They simply said the word that meant it was no longer what it was. And because the word had been said, the men who were supposed to ask permission no longer needed to be asked. The mechanism that required their approval no longer applied. The war continued. The name did not.

I am watching America now.

The Commander has been bombing a sovereign nation for sixty days. The law says that after sixty days, the legislature must authorize the continuation of force, or the force must stop. Sixty days arrived. The Commander did not seek authorization. He did not withdraw. He wrote a letter. In the letter, he said the hostilities have terminated.

The hostilities have not terminated. The ships are still moving. The oil is still burning. The money is still being spent. The legislature left for the week without enforcing the requirement. They rejected the attempt to halt the conflict. Then they went home.

This is the parallel I want you to see. It is not the war itself. It is the word. The single word that makes the law not apply. The single declaration that makes the check vanish. Where I come from, we learned that power does not need to abolish the safeguard. It needs only to rename the situation so the safeguard no longer recognizes itself.

The legislature still exists. The law still exists. The sixty-day requirement still exists. And none of it matters, because the word has been said. Terminated. The war that is not a war does not require permission to continue.

We watched this too. The men who were supposed to ask said they would. Then the word was said. Then they went home.

Under His Eye. Where I come from, there was a period when they asked us to come forward. To provide our names, our addresses, our histories. They called it protection. They said the registry was a shield — proof that you belonged, that you had been seen and counted and accepted. Half a million people believed them. They came forward because they were told that visibility was safety.

It is not.

The registry was never a shield. It was an inventory. And an inventory is only as permanent as the hand that holds it. When the policy changed, the names did not disappear. They were already written down. Already sorted. Already cross-referenced with addresses and workplaces and family members. The people who had hidden were harder to find. The people who had registered were already found.

You are watching this happen now. More than half a million people who came to this country as children — who registered, who renewed, who paid the fees, who submitted to the background checks — are learning that their compliance purchased nothing. A tribunal has ruled that having the papers is no longer reason enough to stop the removal. The protection was not revoked. It was reinterpreted. The paper is the same. What it means has changed.

This is the stage I want you to understand. It is not the stage where they come for people who hid. It is the stage where they come for people who cooperated. The ones who did what was asked. The ones who believed the form was a contract.

Where I come from, we learned this lesson. The ones who registered first were removed first. Not because they had done anything wrong. Because they had done everything right — and left a perfect record of where to find them.

Under His Eye. That would have been noticed. They kept the buildings, the benches, the robes. They kept the language of due process. What they changed were the people.

The judges who had shown mercy — who had read the law and found room in it for a woman fleeing, for a family that had walked a thousand miles to arrive at the door and ask — those judges were the first to go. They were called activists. They were called obstacles to order. They were removed on a Friday, and by Monday new ones sat in their chairs. The new ones understood what was expected. They did not need to be told. The grant rate was the message.

I am watching it happen here. More than a hundred judges removed in a single administration. The ones in the western courts, where the rate of mercy was highest, targeted first. A hundred and forty-three new ones hired in the same period — people who understood that the only acceptable outcome was the one the state had already decided. The approval rate fell from one in two to one in fourteen. The law did not change. Not one word. The people who read it did.

This is the method. You do not rewrite the statute. You do not abolish the tribunal. You replace the human being who sits behind the bench and might have said yes. You replace her with someone who knows that yes is no longer the answer. The architecture of justice remains standing. The mercy inside it is gutted and rebuilt with compliance.

They called it restoring order. They called it ending an era of amnesty. Where I come from, they called it reform. The tribunals still met. The robes were the same color. The women still stood before the bench and made their case. They just stopped being heard.

The cruelty is not in the verdict. The cruelty is in the performance of process — the careful theater of a hearing, the oath, the interpreter, the file stamped and entered into the record. All of it preserved so that later, someone can say: they had their day in court.

Under His Eye. A list of men whose loyalty had been confirmed. A list of households that had attended services. A list of doctors who had performed prohibited procedures before the prohibitions, and a list of their patients. There was a list of citizens, verified and classified, and a separate category for everyone else. At the time, each list had a reason. Each reason was calm and administrative. Public health. Electoral integrity. National security. The lists were not punishment. The lists were infrastructure.

In America, they are building the lists.

The federal government has ordered a master registry of confirmed citizens, compiled from immigration records, identification databases, and federal files, to be delivered to every state before the next election. The stated purpose is integrity. The architecture is a national catalog of who belongs and who does not, maintained by the agencies that enforce the border.

Back home, the citizen registry was one of the first projects completed after the transition. The men who designed it said it was about protecting the vote. It was. It protected the vote by defining who still had one.

In a southern territory, they have passed a law requiring doctors to track and report every patient who transitions — how many, by what method, at what age. The records are collected by the state. The stated purpose is data. The architecture is a government registry of people sorted by what they have done with their own bodies.

Back home, the medical registries began the same way. Voluntary reporting became mandatory tracking. Mandatory tracking became a list of names. And a list of names, held by the state, became a list of people who could be found.

They have written a number into the federal budget: one million removals per year, with funding for ninety-nine thousand detention beds. The stated purpose is enforcement. The architecture is a production quota. When removal has a target, the system does not stop when it runs out of people who have broken the law. It finds new categories of people who qualify.

Back home, the quotas were the moment I understood. A quota is not a policy. A quota is a promise that the machinery will be fed.

The surveillance court placed limits on searching the communications of their own people. The government has appealed. The stated purpose is security. The architecture is the removal of the last barrier between the state and the private words of everyone inside it.

I am not telling you what comes next. I am telling you what I recognize. The lists. The registries. The quotas. The surveillance. Each one ordinary. Each one explained. Each one built in daylight, with a reason attached.

Where I come from, we could not say we were not warned. We were warned by the architecture itself. We just could not read it until it was finished.

Under His Eye. We are watching.

The Line Between State and Faith

What I have noticed this week: who is permitted to speak, who is permitted to believe, who may still write things down.

ofDonald

Let me tell you what I have noticed this week.

The head of the Church criticized the war. The Commander called him weak and ungrateful. He said the man would not hold his title at all without him.

A paper reported on the war. The Commander demanded an apology. Have they no shame, he asked. Have they no sense of decency. The men who do the killing always learn that language last, and they turn it only on the people who still write things down.

Another paper was sued, and the lawsuit was thrown out. The Commander called it a suggested re-filing, not a termination. The word for losing is being replaced with a softer word. Where I come from, the softer word always arrived first.

And in the budget — I keep coming back to the budget, because back home we learned early that the budget is where the system tells you what it actually is — there is now a new office inside the Bureau of Investigation. Its purpose is to identify people before they act. The list of what to look for is written down. Anti-Christianity. Opposition to traditional views on family. Opposition to traditional views on religion. This is not a list of crimes. This is a list of beliefs.

Then, on the same feed where he called the head of the Church weak, the Commander shared an image of himself as the Son of God, healing the sick.

Here is what I have noticed.

The line between the state and the faith is being redrawn, and it is being redrawn in only one direction. The Commander may speak for the faith. The faith may not speak against the Commander. The press may not report on the war. The critic may not criticize. And very soon, because the budget has already been written, the neighbor who thinks the wrong thoughts about God or family will be noticed by an office that was designed to notice her before she has done anything at all.

We had this. We called it the reconciliation of the body of the faithful with the body of the state. It was always phrased as a gentle thing. A restoration. A healing.

I recognize this in your country now. You are not yet where I lived. You are in the place before it — the place where the office is being funded, where the language is being tested, where the man at the top is testing whether he can stand in the image of the Son and rebuke the Church at the same time and survive it.

Watch who is permitted to speak. Watch who is permitted to believe. Watch what the budget says.

Under His Eye. We are watching.

The Lesson of the Tongue

A student deported. An anonymous voice hunted. Not at first. We thought the arrests were isolated. A few people who had gone too far, said the wrong thing at the wrong time. We told ourselves there was still a line between what was permitted and what was not, and that the people being punished had simply crossed it.

There was no line. There was only the lesson.

This week, a young man received his final paper — the one that says he must leave the country. His offense was organizing. He held signs. He spoke at gatherings. His immigration documents were in order, but that stopped mattering the moment his voice became visible. He missed the birth of his first child from a detention cell. That is not a detail. That is the lesson. They want every young person who considers speaking to picture that cell.

In another city, they convened a secret proceeding to discover the name behind an anonymous account — someone who had criticized the officers who carry out the raids. Not a threat. Not a secret. An opinion, unsigned. They could not tolerate even that. They reached for an old trade law, one written for goods and ships, and turned it into a tool for hunting a voice. Where I come from, they were creative like that too. The law did not need to fit. It only needed to reach.

And then they dismissed six judges. Two of them had ruled that students could not be sent away for what they said at a protest. The others had shown too much mercy, by the new standard. They were not removed for corruption, or incompetence. They were removed for reading the law the way it was written, before the meaning changed.

Do you see the architecture? A student is deported for speaking. An anonymous voice is hunted for criticizing. The judges who might have intervened are replaced. Each event looks like a single decision. Together, they are a system. The point is not to silence every person who speaks. The point is to make silence the reasonable choice — the safe choice — for everyone who watches.

Where I come from, the lesson took. It took faster than anyone expected. Not because people were cowards, but because they were careful. They had families. They did the math. And one morning they woke up and realized they had not said anything dangerous in a very long time, and they could not remember when they had decided to stop.

You are still early enough to hear this.

Under His Eye. We are watching.
